Pre Takeoff Checklist
Lesson Objective
During this lesson, the student/candidate will learn the procedures for a successful pre-takeoff checklist, including the importance of each item on the checklist.

Content
- The importance of a Pre-Takeoff Checklist
- The difference between a "Check" list and "Do" list
- CB SIFTT CB, club checklist standard
- AB CCC DD, used by other clubs
- use of seatbelts and seat harnesses
Completion Standards
The student must be able to perform
- the CB SIFTT CB checklist without prompting from the instructor
The student must be able to explain
- the importance of a pre-takeoff checklist
- each of the items on the checklist, in order
Prerequisite Study
- 14 CFR §91.107 Use of safety belts, shoulder harnesses, and child restraint systems.
- Glider Flying Handbook page 6-2
Recommended Study
- CB SIFTT CB:
- Controls -- Free and clear, full motion
- Ballast -- Appropriate amounts and stowed correctly
- Straps -- Passenger and Pilot strapped in, and know how to get out
- Instruments -- Altimeter set, radio on, master switch on
- Flaps -- Flaps in the correct position (even if we don't use them)
- Trim -- Set to takeoff setting
- Tail Dolly -- Removed before takeoff
- Canopy -- Front and rear canopy secured and locked
- Brakes -- Dive brakes closed and locked after the slack is out
