Notes:

The “opposite” pattern is, I believe, more popular (it’s my personal preference over the “inside” pattern).

Note that local airport management can establish much more complex patterns, e.g., for use at multi-runway airports.

FWIW, FAR 91.126 and 91.127 (operating at/near airports in G or E airspace) don’t provide much in the way of separating categories of aircraft (except helicopters).
