Notes:
After all the study of the rules, of the technology, and current practice, there’s a lot individual pilots can do that involves three things that are simple in concept but hard in practice!
COMMUNICATE! Several of the incidents we reviewed could have been prevented by better communications!
COURTESY! Pilots are often by nature assertive (and should be!), but respect for your colleagues will go a long way toward making everyone safer!
COMMON SENSE! It helps a LOT to recognize and understand the differences in pilot skill, aircraft equipment available, published procedures, AND the performance of not only YOUR aircraft but the others who share the airspace.
As my friend, fellow soaring pilot, retired USAF officer, and current active airline pilot Fred Mueller says, “It’s Good to Know Stuff”.
