Problems getting to the members only section?

The members-only section of the site is secured with SSL, Secure Sockets Layer. We did this because of a bit of paranoia, since there is some sensitive information on the club's website, like your userid and password. There is also information about all of the other member's personal information.

In order to set up a secure site, we needed to get an SSL Certificate, a cryptographic method of a trusted third party to ensure that we really are Skyline Soaring. Unfortunately, the cryptographic certificate is quite an expensive undertaking, purchased through a company such as VeriSign or Thawte. We would much rather put our money into the aircraft or maintenance of the club.

Since you won't be sending any really important information like credit card information to our club, the webmasters elected to use a free certificate service called CaCert.org. Unfortunately, most browsers do not have the CaCert root certificate automatically installed on them. So in order for you to access Skyline Soaring Club's members-only section without any annoying messages like "THIS SITE SHOULDN'T BE TRUSTED", we urge you to install the CaCert root certificate.

The process is pretty painless: Simply go to this URL: http://www.cacert.org/index.php?id=3, and follow the instructions for your web browser. In most cases, clicking on the link named "Class 1 PKI Key, Root Certificate (PEM Format)" will get the CaCert root certificate installed for this browser.

Of course, if you have any questions, please feel free to drop an email to the club's webmasters at webmaster@skylinesoaring.org
